ou don't know how you arrived here. What you remember of your past is foggy at best. All you know for certain now, is that you were chosen for a journey you didn't ask for. You arrive in Providence in a ruined keep on a hill. Here, you discover a single token of help: a Ring of Power. It calls to you, and brings out a power and potential you may not have known you ever had. There is an unknown force that threatens to consume this world. You have been tasked by a mysterious entity, only known as the 'Benefactor', to stop this force of destruction. But how you go about that is very much up to you.

Providence RP is a "people-with-powers" roleplay that focuses on exploring a chaotic world and making the unknown known. It is a world of imagination and strength of will, where belief and expectation play a major role in shaping reality itself.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

General & Starting

MAKING AND LINKING SUB-ACCOUNTS
You register your character as a new account in this format: David Kronenberg (middle names optional). Using your OOC account, you can then link the accounts under "edit sub-accounts" in the "my controls" link at the top of the board.

SETTING INFORMATION
Providence is a fantasy setting. The Hamlet itself is founded on 16th to 17th century architecture of a small rural European town, with primarily low buildings - the tallest structure is the Tower. However, the further you go outside of Providence's walls, the less specific what you might find becomes. Indeed, you could find nearly anything far enough out. Or you could find nothing.

TECHNOLOGY LIMITATIONS
Providence's level of technology is similar to that of the early 1900/mid-1800s of a rural town's facilities. There is some steam power, but no motor engine; thus no cars, motorcycles or other vehicles. Primary transporatation is still by horse and wagon. While plumbing facilities are well-maintained and more modern than what one might expect, electricity is underdeveloped and capacitors (batteries) are non-existent. Heating, some lighting, and there may be a radio or too, though there are no stations to play. Primary lighting relies primarily on oil lamps. When writing a character that has come from present or future time, keep in mind that their advanced technology does not carry over. Providence is only "backwards-compatible" with technology, so characters who are reliant on more modern technology may not be viable in the setting.

WHAT YOUR CHARACTER CAN "BRING" WITH THEM
Their personal effects, such as clothing or small objects (a lighter, their glasses, rope, a locket etc) can be on them when they arrive in the Keep. Anything with advanced technology would need to be omitted within the profile and within roleplay posts. When outside of Providence's wall, characters are able to find materials from their reality, as long as its within reason for it to proliferate there. For example, a character from Tibet may find plants endemic to their homeland within the mountain ranges, or a character from Africa may find a particular tree growing within the forest. The further one goes away from the wall, the more it will be shaped by characters' realities. Instead of a few plants, characters could imagine more of the ecosystem they knew of, including animals and even cultural relics or technologies, so long as the concepts adhere to the technology limitations.

THE FASHION OF PROVIDENCE
There are no synthetic materials such as polyester or rayon within Providence, and no velcro, plastic, name branding or digital prints. Natural fibres are dyed with natural material, though some colours can be synthesized through alchemy or chemistry. The tailoring and cut of clothing can have more modern elements incorporated into its design, allowing some freedom in what can be worn. Clothing can be made by oneself, but the concept of pret-a-porter or readymade fashion does exist, despite Providence's more medieval / rustic setting.

CURRENCY AND TRADE
Originally most trade was done through bartering. Recently a bank was constructed to help centralize the value of goods, and to produce a currency backed by the village's own prosperity. The bank is relatively new however, so bartering and trading favours is still practised. Furthermore, although some newcomers may arrive with pockets of money (especially paper money) from their old lives, this value is generally considered worthless.

Setting

Does everyone speak the same language? If yes, why?
Yes, they do. The in-universe reason being that, as a sort of dreamscape, you immediately intuitively understand what is spoken or written to you. Though if you have a strong attachment to a specific language or culture, you may present yourself with a sort of accent from there. Sign language works similarly, despite ASL and BSL having differences, the gist of what is being conveyed can be understood.

Does my character need to be from a certain time period or place on Earth?
No, to both. Your character may be from ancient Egypt, if you so choose. They may be from the future or some distant planet or different universe. However, all characters still end up in the same place, so a futuristic character may find themselves very much out of place and out of touch in this more fantasy-bent world. Most player characters are human or some close proximity, and it would seem the Benefactor has a bias towards these forms.

Powers and Rings

Must my ring be a ring?
While it is preferable that your ring is, in fact, a ring, it doesn’t have to be. If it’s far more befitting for your character, you may have it in a different form of worn jewelry. Bracelets, Earrings, Pendants, and the like are all perfectly viable.

Do I need to carry my ring to use it?
Not only must the ring be on your person, it must be ‘presented’ out in the open. So you can’t use your powers if you swallowed your ring, for instance.

Are there any forbidden powers?
Permanent strength/speed boosts - these are already governed by your psyche level. Furthermore, invincibility/immortality is not allowed.

Can Powers Affect Other Rings?
A: Yes, albeit always temporarily. Keep in mind any such power would have to overcome the other’s psyche.

Can having your race change (via werewolf bite, vampire siring, etc.) change your powers?
No. If your character ‘changes’ into some other race, they may have all the behavioural/aesthetic traits but none of the preternatural abilities.

Should I include time limits / cooldowns in powers by posts or minutes?
None, we do not have time or post limitations in power write-ups. It's important to have tangible trade-offs, but the goal is not to hinder your power, or allow your power to be used infinitely at will. Your limitations are relative to your rank; a C-rank will have more power they can use than a D-rank player.

So every talent is based entirely on my Psyche?
Every talent is based entirely on your psyche level, so it is unnecessary to specify this in your talent description. It's already implied simply by being a talent.

What kind of powers are encouraged?
Ones that can help save the world. +.+
